The New York Times ran an article by Michael Cannell, which chronicles how design changes during hard pressed economic times.   During the Great Depression, as the article points out, American designers took a call to arms to create fashionable not frivolous pieces that were appealing to a broad audience.

  1. I hope so! Practicality = Beauty!

  2. I definitely think it already has. I think people, now more than ever, like the idea of finding pieces they can reuse in their homes. Think about how many people now have painted tree stumps in their living room 😀

I’ve been enjoying some of my own “IKEA-hacking” in order to create new furniture without having to spend much cash.
